Text : Isaiah 43:18-19
[Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert].
Our God specializes in doing new things and He’s truly a god of new beginnings. He spurns surprises every time. Even when it seems as if no good thing is going to happen again for you and when it is like you have gotten to the end of the rope in your journey in life, that’s when He bring about new things. He does that every time. No one can beat Him to this.
From this particular scripture, God says, ‘remember ye not the former things’. The former things here is all about the former challenges, failures, sufferings, frustrations etc. of the people of Judah and Jerusalem. They have gone through very trying times at this time but He said He will do a new thing, something different, a total departure from the present unpleasant situation.
Do you feel like this sometimes that things have gone well overboard? That there seems to be no way out again? Gods was emphatic about what He was going to do for His people. If you read it further, the description of what He says He will do is something great, unprecedented, unimaginable and impossible and very exceptional.
He mean to say the sufferings will end, the setbacks will disappear, the shame and reproach will be terminated and there’s going to be a season of supernatural transformation and turnaround.
Check these out in verse 19:
– I will make a way in the wilderness. A Rivers in the desert
You don’t see a way in the wilderness because wilderness is a jungle, a dead end, a no go area, nothing good can come out of it, it’s the habitation of wild beasts. Wilderness is an abandoned and rejected place but God is saying even in that wilderness situation of your life, He’s going to make a way. Hallelujah, Praise God!
He also said He’s going to make rivers not a river in the desert. A desert place is not where you see rivers. No. But God is saying He’s going to turn that desert like life of yours into rivers. This is great, this is good news.
Has God done something similar to this before one may ask? Of course Yes!
Psalm 78:16 (He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers).
