FATHERHOOD IS A CALLING
Fatherhood is not just being able to father a child or children it is a calling. It is an assignment from heaven given to men by our creator.
If one is asking, what is the definition of a father? I believe the right way to explain Fatherhood will revolve around the context of the roles you play as a father in the family to your wife and children.
Who is a father?
A father is a leader: The mantle of leadership automatically falls on you the day you become a married man because you are to lead your wife and your children, you are to be their number one role model. This assigned role firstly makes you a spiritual leader which means, you are to lead your family when it comes to serving God. Joshua as a father and a spiritual leader said, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15
This is a clear example of a man who was able to live an exemplary life and was a role model for his family to emulate. He was a man of war who fought battles to lead the nation of Israel to the promised land. He never lost his family in the process. Many today have allowed their secular career or even ministry to rob them of the leadership position at home. One of your roles is to be a decision-maker for the family. It is a sensitive duty because any decision you make either good or bad will impact your children and others around you. Joshua decided to serve The Lord. Not only him but the decision binds on all his family members.
Your leadership role will make you a mentor, a coach, a guide, a teacher, and a trainer. Fatherhood is a symbol of strength, love, and empathy. You must agree that with all these diverse roles, A man will need special and great grace from God to succeed in these assignments.
Success in business or a career may not translate to being a successful father. We have seen great men with all kinds of accolades but indeed they are nothing but failed fathers because their children and the people around them could not reflect this greatness in their lives. many children of great leaders could not uphold the success of their father after his passing because there was no respect for such a man among his family members thereby nobody was interested in the business left behind. As it’s been said ‘A success without a successor is nothing but a failure’
It takes more than mere efforts to succeed as a Father, you must engage in prayers. Prayer is one of the tools that every father needs to control the affairs of his home are very much required.
Pray for grace and wisdom to be a successful father.
