THE HOUSE OF GOD (1)

What is so special about the house of God? Church

If you ask what is church? By the level of our knowledge today we will quickly say, that we are the church the building not made with hands. This is correct because that is what the Bible says in Hebrews 9:11

But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; in other words, the tabernacle that is different from the physical building can also be referred to as the house of God. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:9  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

The physical temple is as important to God as our body which is His living temple. God put His name on the places where they set aside for worship. The Tabernacle of the Tent in the wilderness later rested and a wonderful building was put in place which God was so pleased with

1 Kings 8:4, 6-7  And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up. 1Ki 8:6  And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims. For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. God was so pleased with the building that He descended in the cloud of glory to cover the tabernacle.

THE HOUSE OF PRAYER

Prayer is defined as communication between man and God. Man communicates with God in various ways and for various reasons. In praise, worship, supplication, intercession, and other forms of interacting with God reasons.

Do we just gather in the church to pray as one of the traditions that is passed from one generation to the other? Or what makes a building special from other buildings when it comes to prayer, you can and always pray in your house and God will answer. Why is a church called THE HOUSE OF PRAYER?

This is the answer:

God through the prophet Isaiah said, Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called a house of prayer for all people. Isaiah 56:7.

Jesus confirmed this when he discovered that they had turned the house of God into another thing. And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves. Matthew 21:12-13. As it was in the days of Jesus so it is now. Church has become a place to trade and transact businesses.

Church has now become a place where the only thing some people come to do is to advertise their wares, run after debtors, and steal here and there… Such people are abusing the house of God.

Please you are in church to pray and not to play, gossip, or fight.

Why are people carried away? There are so many distractions in church, the mix of multitudes which encourage unhealthy competition among members in church…

It has to be intentional for anyone to be focused on what the house of God is meant for in this dispensation.

I think there should be a Clarion call so that we can return to the track. You have come to church to pray, commune, and fellowship with God. All you should focus on is getting answers to your prayers. What of those who want to seize the advantage of the crowd in church to sell their stuff because their meal ticket is from that business? Well, that should be done with discretion, you cannot be trading stuff when the service is going on, but you can sell after the service, outside the church premises. In other words, your primary reason for coming to church should not be to buy and sell.

It is important to re-emphasize this truth because many are abusing the use of the house of God. One important thing to note is that the house of prayer is where we meet God.

A house where when you bring your petition, it will be answered.
