WALKING IN THE LIGHT 2
WALKING IN THE LIGHT (2)
Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
1John 2:8-11
Another way to walk in the Light is by walking in Love. A Love walk for us as Christians is one of the virtues that differentiates us from others who do not have Christ. Our love for one another is not based on how good someone is to you; your love for others is not a payback for the good deeds you have received, but rather it is the opposite. Jesus commanded us to love even those who are against us. Matthew 5:44-47 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?
The love that we are showing the world is the reflection of the love that we got from our Father in heaven. The Bible says He first loved us even when we were sinners. Romans 5:6-8 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Realising the depth of love that made Jesus come and die on the cross when we do not worth it, is the reason why we should love those who do not deserve it.
Walking in love towards other brethren shows that we are truly the disciples of Christ. Irrespective of your denomination and doctrinal differences, we must show love to other members of the body of Christ. John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Jesus walked in love among His disciples to the extent that the Pharisees would need someone to betray Him because it would be practically impossible to just lay their hands on Him. The apostles and the early church members shared love, and there was not one of them who lacked.
Today, we should be able to replicate what the early church did. Sharing love in the church to the point that there will be no lack, if possible. Those who are weak are helped by those who are strong so that they can stand. Not just in material matters, but in spiritual and emotional issues, those who are weak should be helped by love.
Do not close your eyes to the needs of others, do not think that they deserve the challenges that they are going through. God must have positioned you to be the extension of His loving hands; therefore, go ahead and help, and you shall be blessed.
