WARNINGS AGAINST LYING

Living the Overcomer’s life. Part 2

Scriptural Warnings Against Lying.

In this series of Living a Life of Victory by the Word, we shall be looking at what I call scriptural warnings. To be truly victorious in life, we must abide by the warnings of the scriptures. These are things that we must not and cannot toy with, the consequences of which will lead to ultimate failure, defeat, and downfall. God forbid.

What are Scriptural warnings?

There are some biblical warnings that we must abide by otherwise, there will be grievous repercussions. Though the effect of ignoring these warnings may not be immediate, the consequences will surely come, and by that time, it will be too late.

Why warnings?

As a loving father, God desires that we live a life of total victory both now in this present time and in the hereafter and therefore He in His wisdom has put these warnings in the scriptures so we can see them and escape from every trap that is out there to stop and hinder us from this glorious plan of victory and triumph that He has packaged for us.

We are to take these warnings to heart so that we won’t be victims of the consequences of disobedience that can attract suffering. The bible says in Proverbs 22:3, “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.”

Warning against telling lies.

Proverbs 19:5A false witness shall not be unpunished and he that speaketh lies shall not escape

Proverbs 19:9A false witness shall not be unpunished and he that speaketh lies shall perish

Who can be described as a false witness or who is a Liar?

  • Someone who do not tell the truth
  • Someone who perverts or compromises the truth
  • Someone who can be best described as a deceiver
  • False witness – a deliberate liar, saying what did not happen as though it happened, or painting a very wrong picture or scenario to pervert the truth, … Speaketh lies – habitual liar, continuous liar, always lying…Someone fond of lying, cheating, and deceiving people to get favors or things.

God hates such people – He can’t stand liars. Below are some scriptures that can attest to that:

  • Psalm 101:7 He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.
  • Proverbs 6:16-17,19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Satan is the number one liar, lying is his identity. He is shrewd in lying. Jesus told the Pharisees in John 8:44, Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. He is also called the deceiver –

Revelation 12:9 ESV And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world-he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Dear friend, are you born again? Have you a regenerated mind? Do you still indulge in telling lies, sometimes, once in a while or even most of the time? Watch it, the scripture says all liars (not some or few) but all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. You and I will not end there. Amen. Lying is not just a habit, it’s a spiritual thing. It’s perpetrated by the spirit of lies – there’s a spirit behind lying. It’s an evil spirit; it is called a lying spirit.  You have to take a stand against it because it’s not just one of those things that you do, No! This can be established with the passage of the scriptures below:

1 Kings 22:22-23 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

The end of a liar.

Liars shall not escape in the day of judgment! Liars shall perish – they will end it in hell – Revelation 21:8. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
There’s nothing like a white lie or a black lie. Lie is lie.

You shall not be destroyed in Jesus’ name. Amen
